Cowboys and Cajuns meet in Lafayette – 1-10 All Stars Lafayette vs Lake Charles
Zy Alexander (WR/QB, 6’3″ 175) spent most of his career at quarterback but as a Lafayette Cajun All Star he showed his wide receiver skills as he hauled in three touchdowns during Saturday’s All Star Game. His stats for the day included 4 catches for 117 yards, 3 TD’s. The Loreauville senior signed with The Southeastern Lions during the early signing period.
“He was unbelievable,” said Lafayette coordinator Terry Martin, who also coached Alexander at Loreauville. “He’s kind of done that all year long. We didn’t play him much at receiver during the season because we needed him at quarterback. I talked to one of his college coaches and told him that I know they want him to play defensive back, but you might want to take a quick look at him on the other side of the ball, too.”
“Zy can do so many things,” Martin said. “There’s a lot of untapped potential in him. He’s never really worked at releases and the fine points of running routes because he’s always been our quarterback. He’s one of those kids who can play three different positions. He’s just a phenomenal athlete but an even better person.”
The Lafayette defense recorded four interceptions: Keontae Williams (Acadiana), Princeton Malbrue (LCA), Drew Fruge (Notre Dame) and Kavias Honore (Comeaux)(returned his interception back for a 37 yard touchdown and had the other interception negated due to an offsetting penalty during the play)
Comeaux High School’s Kavias Honore was named Most Outstanding Player for Lafayette.
Teurlings Catholic kicker Ian Judice added a 45-yard field goal for the Cajuns followed by the speedy and shifty Crowley tailback Obadiah Butler who hauled in a 46-yard touchdown pass from Courville. Acadian’s tailback Lucky Brooks added 63 yards rushing on 10 carries.
