Battle for District Title in 2-4A – #2 Neville Tigers 8-1 (4-0) takes the win over #3 Huntington Raiders 8-2 (3-1)
It was a clash of two of the top teams in 4A on Thursday night. The battle brought the #3 Seed in the LHSAA 4A Rankings Huntington Raiders to Bill Rupple Stadium in Monroe to take on the #2 Seed in 4A, The Neville Tigers. The winning team would take home the 2-4A District Title.
Neville got off to a quick start as their first two offensive possessions took only one play for touchdowns. Both plays came from senior running back and TCU Commit A J Allen, who finished the night with 162 yards on 6 carries and 3 touchdowns (all in the first half.) Allen would add his third touchdown of the night on a 62 yard run in the second quarter with 11:06 left in the half.
Neville would rack up 298 total yards on the night with 242 coming on the ground and 56 in the air. Huntington finished up the night with 152 total yards of offense, 140 yards passing and 12 yards rushing.
Huntington seemed to have trouble getting a rhythm in the game offensively as the Neville defense continued to pitch scoreless quarters. The front seven is massive and quick to the ball while the secondary resembles jet fighters seeking and destroying their targets.
Neville claims their 14th district title with the win and are looking to be ranked 2nd in the LHSAA rankings with a home playoff game next week. They will find out on Sunday who they will be hosting once the 2021 LHSAA Class 4A finally rankings are announced.
