Louisiana Sport Writers Association Announces Class 1A All-State Team

Southern Lab’s Shane Forman was the defensive driving force behind the Kittens’ journey to the LHSAA Division IV State Title.  The driving force earning the senior linebacker Most Valuable Defensive Player Honors by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association on the Class 1A All-State Team.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Forman recorded 87 tackles, seven sacks with three tackles for a loss on the season. In the championship game against Ouachita Christian, Forman totaled 12 tackles and had a fumble recovery in the Kittens victory, with the score being 38-14.

Forman also garnered honors as a 1st Team All District and The Advocate All Metro player as well.

Calvary Baptist quarterback, Landry Lyddy earned LSWA Offensive Player of the Year Honors. The senior, 6-1, 185-pound Lyddy, had an outstanding senior campaign to top a stellar high school career.  He threw for over 8K passing yard in his high school career and 100 passing touchdowns.  In 2021, he lead the state in passing yards with 4247 yards and 53 passing touchdowns.  Lyddy signed with Louisiana Tech and will be an early enrollee. He was also voted the Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Louisiana in Football and led his Cavaliers to the Division IV semifinals.

Both Forman and Calvary quarterback Landry Lyddy are returning All-State players from last year.

It took 82 years for a state championship to come to Homer, LA.  The year 2021 was that year and it was a magic one for the Pelicans and Head Coach Richie Casey.  Casey guided the Pelicans to 11-3 season and the LHSAA Class 1A title in 2021.  The year of outstanding accomplishments earned Casey the LSWA Coach of the Year honors in a close vote over Southern Lab’s Darrell Asberry, who guided the Southern Lab Kittens to an 11-2 record and the Division IV State Title.
