Louisiana Sport Writers Association Announces Class 2A All-State Team

St. Charles Catholic and Many headline the 2021 Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State Football Team.

St. Charles Catholic’s first-year coach, Wayne Stein led the Comets to the Division III State Championship with a 32-27 win over Lafayette Christian Academy.  Stein also led the Comets to an undefeated record of 11-0 and their first State Championship since 2011.

The Many Tigers swept the Outstanding Player Honors as senior running back London Williams earned Outstanding Offensive Player and junior safety Tackett Curtis won Outstanding Defensive Player.  This was four star safety Tackett Curtis’ second straight year to earn the Outstanding Defender Honor.

Williams was among the state’s leading rushers with 2,646 yards and 47 touchdowns, while Curtis made 128 tackles and four interceptions to help the Tigers go 13-2.  The Tigers returned to the superdome in December to the Class 2A championship game for the third straight year but fell short of the Championship to the Amite Warriors.

Class 2A champion Amite was represented on the team with a trio of seniors in linebacker Javae Gilmore, punter Liam Adamson and return specialist Earl Jackson.

Gilmore, a Mississippi State commitment, had 114 tackles and three sacks, while Adamson is regarded as one of the top kicker/punters in Louisiana. Jackson returned three kicks for touchdowns.

Senior offensive lineman Jakorey Jones also made the team for Many.

Episcopal linebacker David Cresson received All-State Honors with an outstanding senior year defensively as he racked up 114 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, three sacks for the 2021 season.  Defensive Lineman Maxie Baudoin of Ascension Episcopal was a gap stopper and physical defender that earned all state honors, as well.
