Evaluation: Studies film continuously to get better. Mayfield is a film junkie. He breaks down opposing teams offensive sets and looks for their tendencies and weaknesses prior to each game.
The player that most inspires him is, Ray Lewis. He wants to model his game after Ray Lewis’ passion for the game and how Lewis carried himself on and off the field.
Mayfield understands that being prepared through film study and intense practice habits is important to being the best field general for his teams defense at game time. Commanding the defense to make the right adjustments, when he recognizes the offensive set, is key to stopping the ball with minimum or no gain. He works hard to translate his film study and skill development to the practice and game field. He possess a quick first step that gives him the explosive ability to burst through the gap to make the stop as well as being able to maintain his gap on stretch plays. He avoids blockers well. Shows very good field vision and maintains good focus as the play develops.
