UPDATE – Where does the 5 Star Safety Jacoby Mathews Ponchatoula High School Land NSD 2022

UPDATE: 2/2/2022:  Commits to Texas A&M

UPDATE:  Where does one of the top recruits in the Nation land during NSD 2022?  That is a question that many are asking.  Will he be staying home to join the hometown LSU Tigers, will Texas A & M pull the coveted prospect, or maybe Florida sneaks in and snags him up.  We will find out on Feb. 2nd as the long awaited decision is announced publicly.

Mathews is listed as the #19 Prospect overall (by On3 Sports) and is still unsigned for the C/O 2022.

Since he first stepped on the varsity field two years ago to take over at quarterback due to an injury to T J Finley, Mathews has shown elite greatness in his athletic ability on the football field.  Everyone who attended the game that night was wowed by his agility, speed, quickness, and pure athletic ability during the second half of the game.  It didn’t take long for him to be known as an outstanding multi sport athlete and honor student in the classroom, which have been his biggest goal during his high school career at Ponchatoula.

The quiet, reserved football player off the field was anything but that on the field.  Jacoby played QB for the junior varsity team but it didn’t take long for him to get on the varsity field as a starter.  The question was always, where do you play such a talented athlete, that is also a masterful student of the game.  All that mattered to Jacoby was that he was on the field and he was contributing to help his team win games.

On Friday, Jacoby Mathews announced his commitment to the LSU Tigers ending a much anticipated recruiting decision for many top schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and many others.  The Five Star Recruit had decided he was staying home.

Mathews became the second 5 Star safety to Commit to the Tigers for the Class of 2022.  Jacoby will join former teammate, from Ponchatoula High School, T J Finley on the Tigers roster.
