Zachary and LCA fought off rain to complete scrimmage under the Friday Night Lights

This time of the year in south Louisiana is all about school starting, football and of course the evening rain storms. Friday night was all of that and more.

After two lighting delays during the Freshman scrimmage (Zachary leading 14-0), the game was shortened with agreement by the coaches and officials.  The Junior Varsity teams then hit the field.  The first thing that stood out, you can not miss the offensive line for the junior varsity team at Zachary.  They are impressive in size and physicality.

Both Lafayette Christian and Zachary had exciting drives during the junior varsity portion of the scrimmage.  LCA’s JV was unrelating; however, as they created multiple defensive turnovers that lead to scoring opportunities during their game.  LCA took the win in the scrimmage format – 29-14.

It was the first time to see some new faces on Zachary’s sideline and several players stood out after their game performances during the freshman and junior varsity contests. Check out a few of them:

Freshman wide receiver Kristion Brooks (6’3″ 165) has the long body frame and hands to become a top receiver for the Zachary Broncos.  It will be fun to watch him continue to develop and dazzle the Bronco fans for the next three years.

Offensively the junior varsity Broncos were led by junior quarterback Hudson Spangler (6’2″ 180).  Spangler has good size at the quarterback position with a strong arm and a commanding presence on the field.  He will be one to keep an eye on as he continues to develop.

Zachary has a long history of producing top wide receiver talent in the state.  This year will be no different.  All three teams boosted talent at the position.  Junior wide receiver Jonas Hayes caught the eye during the junior varsity game.  Hayes has good size and hands, with quick feet off the line.  He is looking to have a breakout junior year.

On the offensive line, #70 sophomore Kenterrel “KT” Donimo (6’4″ 256) is massive.   A long wide body frame that takes up space on the line.  He is a transfer from St. Helena that is sure to add volumes to line.

On the defensive line, check out #93 sophomore Sean Hamilton (6’3″ 236).  Sean is seeing time on varsity as well as junior varsity.  The sophomore defensive lineman is physical and quick off the line.  He already shows his speed, at this size, and relentless pursuit through the play.

Check out Junior Kicker Kellen Conachen’s Junior Highlights

Conachen (6’1″ 160) booted two kickoffs for touchbacks that went past the back of the end zone and also booted a 39 yard field goal to bring the score to 24-0 Broncos, during the scrimmage.   A strong leg and precision are two words that come to mind when evaluating Kellen and earned him All District Honors in 2021.  He also is part of the Cross Country and Track and Field team (All District and All Metro Honors) and the Zachary Bronco Soccer team.
