Week 6 Friday Night Lights – The Battle On Burnside – EA host St. Amant
One of the top rivalry games in Louisiana, The Battle On Burnside, brought undefeated St. Amant to Spartan stadium to take on East Ascension Friday night in our Friday Night Light’s Game Of The Week.
The pre-game was a celebratory occasion, as The Spartans would retire the number 72, at the surprise of All American and East Ascension/LSU Great Glen Dorsey. Dorsey was an honorary team captain for the night and was surprised and humbled seeing the banner unveiled, under the score board, with his name and jersey number on it.
While both defenses fought hard through the first half, the Gators defense seemed to gain more leverage on the Spartans offense to keep them out of the endzone in the first half. The Gators would find the endzone first with a 3 yard touchdown run by senior running back Kyron Craft. 7-0 Gators
The Spartan defense would fight hard to keep the Gators out of the endzone in the second quarter and hold them to a 24 yard field goal by Easton Jarreau. 10-0 Gators 9:12 mark 2nd quarter.
St. Amant’s special teams played a big part on field position all night, pinning two kicks inside the 5 yard line. This would force a long field for the Spartans offense and led to the third score for the Gators in the first half. Junior defensive back Caleb Ricks would read Gautreau’s pass perfectly to step in front of the receiver and intercept the ball for a pick six. Gators 17-0.
At The Half: St. Amant 17 East Ascension 0
The Spartan defense would continue to pressure St. Amant’s offense and create pressure on Babin in the second half creating turnovers on downs to give the offense chances to get into the endzone. (Tackle for loss by East Ascension’s 2024 LB 6’1″ 220 SjaQuawn Isom)

Flags seemed to gain more yards than both teams in the second half as a flurry of penalties were called on both sides of the ball. St. Amant would finally make it down the field at the 5:12 mark of the game and get into the endzone on a quarterback keep by 2026 QB Cooper Babin. The Gaors would extend their lead to 23-0 at this point of the game.

With two minutes left in the game, East Ascension attempted an onside kick. However, the Gators were ready for it and gain possession of the kick off. After East Ascension used their last remaining timeouts, the Gators were able to run out the clock.
St. Amant would go on to the win the game with a final of 23-8 and move to 6-0 on the season.
