Division II Select Prep Classic Championship – St Thomas More vs Lafayette Christian Academy
Final Score: St. Thomas More 35 LCA 21
The Battle of Lafayette, The Rematch – When you talk about top Louisiana rivalries you would have to include St. Thomas More and Lafayette Christian Academy. Same playing division (Div. II Select), same district (4-4A), and both schools in the same city – Lafayette, LA. The two teams played their district contest with STM taking the win in a shoot out 44-40 final, they met last year in the state championships with STM coming from behind to take the trophy with a final score 52-48.
This championship game was all about redemption for the Knights. The Knights have top player and LSU Commit Ju’Juan Johnson, who has broken almost every offensive record at LCA and also broke Louisiana’s record for career touchdowns and career passing yards during the 2023 season. A State Championship would be a fitting end to a record breaking high school career for Johnson.
In the end it was the Cougars who held on to a second half lead to win back to back State Championships.
