First round of the football playoffs are always full of surprises. Denham Springs Yellowjackets rolled into Central to take on the Wildcats at Wildcat Stadium. The two teams met earlier in the season during district play but this Yellowjacket team looked different then the earlier game. All starters were back on the field and healthy except for starting quarterback, junior three-star Reese Mooney.
The atmosphere was electric along with the Denham Springs offense, which was led by freshman quarterback Jerry Horne and junior running back Ray Mckneely.
Horne commanded the offense like a veteran and Mckneely was the difference maker as he put up 241 rushing yards on 27 carries and scored four of the Yellowjackets touchdowns.
Denham Springs will move on Round 2 (Regional Round) of the 5A playoffs and will host Ouachita Parish at Yellowjacket Stadium Friday night (11-19-2021) at 7:00 PM.
#5 Junior Running Back Ray McKneely rushed for 241 yards on 27 carries and 4 touchdowns (9, 56, 4, and 14 yds) on the night for Denham Springs.
#18 Freshman Quarterback Jerry Horne Denham Springs – first varsity start and it was a big one in the 1st Round of the LHSAA 5A Playoffs. Played solid all night.
